Mercury discovered their affair and always eager to cause mischief, Mercury informed Vulcan of the affair. Being a blacksmith, he fashions a fine metallic mesh and gets Venus and Mars caught in the act. They are then both humiliated in front of the other gods on Mount Olympus. Mercury, Apollo, and Neptune were present. The gods roared with laughter to see the lovers caught, and Mercury makes a joke that he wouldn't mind being caught in the trap himself.
